It seems like only yesterday I was saying goodbye to Windows Media Player 9 (WMP 9) and now WMP 11 is out in beta. I know WMP takes a lot of heat compared to i Tunes, Winamp and even Music Match as far as digital players go, but I have always liked WMP and I like this new version as well.
If this is something you think solves the problem then accept, if not (Most likely will not since it is a weird way of installing it) then feel free to comment on it.
Depending on the power of your computer, it may well just be simpler to run XP in Virtual Box when you want to play encrypted WMV video.
If you have a powerful computer and you spend some time stripping XP down (through nlite, etc) as I have, it shouldn't take more than a few seconds to boot. The latest test results show that there might be problems installing this way, but those test results are rather old -- I suggest trying the latest wine1.3 package in the PPA if you run into problems.
WMP will download a small 1Mb stub installer, to begin downloading WMP 11 proper.
When it finishes, you may get a notification that the installation failed. Bypass DLL’s: Most important, before you launch the new version of WMP, you need to rename the WGA dll file: Launch WMP 11: You need to deliberately to fail WGA validation!
