How are the people in Pakistan

Population of Pakistan

The UN estimates the Pakistani population at around 200 million, although the estimates are always very rough. A full census was last carried out in 2017, when 208 million inhabitants were counted.

Population in Pakistan's provinces

A further recording was carried out at the level of the provinces and allows the following estimates for 2017: Punjab has around 110 million inhabitants, Sindh around 48 million, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa around 30 million, Beluchistan around 12 million and the one administered by the central government Tribal Areas (FATA) around 5 million. The two semi-autonomous regions Jammu & Kashmir could be estimated with around 3 million inhabitants and Gilgit-Baltistan with only around 1 million people living there.

Pakistan's population is growing

Officials put the population growth at around 2%. However, the actual rate is likely to be higher. Pakistan is a rather young country because the average age is around 21 years. Life expectancy averages 66 years.

Distribution of education among men and women

While there is hardly any difference in the birth rate between boys and girls (1.05 boys per 1 girl), the inequalities in education can be clearly felt. The literacy rate of the total population is around 56%, with 70% of men reading and writing proficiently. For women, this is only around 43%.
