The Prime Minister called on the IIT Guwahati to set up a Disaster Management Center to combat disasters in the region

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the National Education Policy (NEP) includes establishing a National Research Foundation to coordinate with all funding agencies to provide funding for all disciplines. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke virtually in front of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) -Guwahati gathering Tuesday, stating that all knowledge, including science, is a means of solving the problems. NEP 2020 would make India a world leader in science and technology. It is structured in a multidisciplinary manner and offers flexibility in the selection of different courses as well as numerous entry and exit phases. During his speech, he stated that the policy would open doors for foreign students to the Indian education sector by allowing foreign universities to set up offshore campuses in India. The Prime Minister called on the IIT Guwahati to establish a Disaster Management Center for Disaster Response in the Northeast Region, which will also provide expertise in this area. He added, "The Northeast Region is the center for India's Act East Policy and the gateway to India's relations with Southeast Asia. The mainstay of relations with these countries has been culture, trade, connectivity and capacity," said an official statement. Education would pave the way to yet another new medium and IIT Guwahati can become its leading center. This will give a new appreciation to the Northeast and new opportunities will also develop, said PM Modi.
