Despite different contents, the communist and the national socialist worldview served as ideologies of rule for totalitarian dictatorships. They turned out to be particularly suitable for legitimizing political behavior that claimed many victims. The author does not ask about the dubious nature of these systems of ideas, but works out their inherent legitimation potential. Despite their differences in content, the Communist and National Socialist Weltanschauungen were suitable for serving as the ruling ideologies for totalitarian dictatorships. They proved to be especially appropriate for legitimating a political behavior, which claimed many victims. Without showing the falsehood and dubious nature of these systems of ideas, their inherent potential for justification is highlighted.
